Presentation of laptops 2017

On Wednesday 11th October we had two visitors in our school, Michael and Catherine. They came from a pharmaceutical company called Sanofi which is based in Waterford. Each year Sanofi makes donations to the community as part of their Corporate and Social Responsibility. We are thrilled as our school was donated five new laptops. It's a great addition to the school. Both staff and pupils are delighted and we will make sure to put them to good use!

Active School Week 2017

We held our Active School Week from Monday 24th until Friday 28th of April. The children were busy taking part in a number of activities including Yoga, Mindfulness, Basketball, Morning Workouts, Nature Trail and we even Walked a Mile With a Smile! A coach from the IRFU also came to visit our school to teach us Tag Rugby. Congratulations to everyone who participated, it was a great week! Active School Initiative

As part of our Active School Initiative February was 'Healthy Heart' month in the school. Catherine Peters was with us every Friday for gymnastics, we took part in Operation Transformation's 10@10 initiative and each child was given a 'Let's Get Active Pocket Planner' to take home and record how many minutes they spent active throughout the day. The planners were filled with ideas, challenges and suggestions to encourage the children to partake in physical exercise. The children shared their ideas each week in school and each child was awarded a certificate to recognise the effort they have made to become more active. We have lots of fun activities coming up in the next few weeks including a céilí as part of Seachtain na Gaeilge and an Easter treasure hunt.

A busy term!

We have made it through the first term and what a busy few months we have had! There were a number of events in the school this term including the Cheerios Breakfast Morning, Food Dudes, the Team Hope Shoebox Appeal, hurling, Irish Dancing, a Halloween disco and Monster March, a Maths trail and treasure hunt, a visit to the theatre and a heritage talk, all while keeping up our work on the Active Flag initiative!

The children worked very hard all term and especially in preparation for our Christmas show. We all enjoyed a great performance of their nativity play, 'Lights, Camera, Action' and they provided a fantastic Irish dancing display with their teacher Ann Egan. Well done to all the children for their hard work and thank you to all the parents for their help with our show!

Keep an eye on our gallery for photographs of all our activities!

Heritage in Schools

We recently had a visit from Mr. Vincent O'Sullivan on behalf of the Heritage in Schools Scheme. Vincent gave a fantastic presentation about Irish farming, past and present, and Irish wildlife. The children had the opportunity to make butter and flour, using an old churn and flour mill. All really enjoyed the experience!

Halloween 2016

We had an action packed day to celebrate Halloween this year. The children arrived to school in fantastic costumes and were delighted to be able to scare all the staff!

The day began with some baking; all the children made some Halloween themed buns which were devoured later on in the day.

We then had a Halloween disco in the junior room, completed a Monster March around the village and finished off the day with a 'Tráth na gceist' in the senior room.

Thank you to all the staff who helped make it such a lovely day for the children and thanks to the parents for helping with such brilliant costumes.

Food Dudes

The Food Dudes initiative was a great success this year. The children were excellent participants and made great efforts  to try all the different food and vegetables. We will continue our work on healthy eating after the midterm break when children will be encouraged to bring in their own fruit and vegetables.

Well done everyone!

Our Active School initiative is ongoing with regular active breaks, Irish dancing and Hurling this term.

School Tour 2016

We had a lovely trip to Glebe House Bakery in Tramore where we were very kindly welcomed by a Gathabawn native, Rosemarie Dunne. The house itself was just amazing with beautiful grounds provided for the children to play, have a snack and get aquainted with the local sheep! The children all gathered in groups in the kitchen and literally hung on Rosemarie's every word. They made buns, biscuits, muffins and brownies and once they were finished decorating them they filled their tummies! The day was finished off with a trip to Run Amuck. A fantastic day was had by all!

Presentation of Tricolour

by Adam O'Neill

Inniu an Déardaoin an 7ú Eanáir. Today three members of the Irish army came to visit us and present us with the tricolour.

They told us about their badges, ranks women in 1916 and tanks. The tricolour was designed by Thomas Francis Meagher. We are not allowed to let the flag touch the ground or be in darkness or write on it.

We sang the National Anthem and Óró Sé Do Bheatha Bhaile because Pádraic Pearse wrote it.

The men told us we are a peace keeping country.
